OverviewThe MILLIPLEX® MAP Human Glycolysis Pathway Magnetic Bead Panel (HGPMAG-27K). This panel is to be used for the simultaneous quantification of the following 7 analytes in any combination in cell or tissue lysates:
• ENO1: Enolase 1, α-enolase, C-myc promoter-binding protein, non-neural enolase
• G6PI: Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, GPI
• HIF-1α: Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-α, ARNT-interacting protein
• LDHA: L-lactate dehydrogenase A chain, LDH muscle subunit, LDH-M
• LDHB: L-lactate dehydrogenase B chain, LDH heart subunit, LDH-H
• PKM2: Pyruvate kinase isoform M2, Pyruvate kinase isozyme M2
• TKT: Transketolase, TK
Background InformationThe glycolysis pathway is a major energy source for the cell and is responsible for the conversion of glucose into pyruvate. The resulting pyruvate can then be converted into lactic acid in the cytoplasm or transferred to the mitochondria where it is converted into Acetyl-CoA which can enter the Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, generating ATP. Increased glucose uptake and a shift to aerobic glycolysis have been observed in many human tumors. This phenomenon is known as the Warburg effect. Glycolysis-related genes are highly upregulated genes in cancer. Monitoring and targeting metabolism in cancer cells is a rapidly expanding area of research, and deregulation of cellular energetics is now included as an emerging hallmark of cancer.
