More Room for Innovation

A Contemporary Global Headquarters

In the coming years, Merck will be transforming the Darmstadt site into a contemporary global headquarters. Among other things, an Innovation Center to promote interdisciplinary project work among employees as well as a new building that will house Visitor Reception and a guest restaurant are being constructed.

Merck is investing in its Headquarters

In order to remain successful, Merck has to continuously adapt to changing markets and a changing environment. The company's nearly 350-year history makes one thing clear: Merck has succeeded in continuously reinventing itself, thereby growing with the times. We are investing in our future today too.

With the "ONE Global Headquarters" initiative, the Darmstadt site will be further developed into a global headquarters. An attractive working environment is being formed that offers sufficient scope for creativity and innovative strength, meets the requirements of a changing working world, and responds flexibly to business changes. At the same time, the site is to present itself in a more open manner to the external world.

Commitment to the Site

Therefore, the site will also change architecturally in the coming years. The construction of an Innovation Center is to promote interdisciplinary project work among employees. A new Visitor Center will serve to properly welcome customers, business associates, and applicants. The Innovation Center and the Visitor Center will be connected via a traffic-calmed square that will extend across Frankfurter Strasse and be open to all traffic. In addition, a new parking garage covered by greenery as well as a new employee restaurant will be built.

Added to this are further major investment projects, such as a new co-generation plant and the recently commissioned energy station. Merck has already invested around € 250 million in its headquarters in 2013 and 2014 alone. These investments are a clear commitment to the company's home base. They will secure jobs, strengthen the local economy and help increase the city's attractiveness.
