      Background InformationCD153, also known as (CD30 ligand or CD30L), is a type II membrane-associated glycoprotein belonging to TNFSF. CD153 is expressed on both CD4+ Th1 and Th2 cells, and may be expressed on macrophages, dendritic cells (DC), B cells, and unique CD4+CD3–CD11c– accessory cells, which are the adult equivalent of inducer cells for the development of lymph node and Peyer’s patches in ontogeny. Several members of the TNF superfamily (TNFSF) have been shown to regulate the fate of T cell immunity. CD30, the receptor for CD30L, and belonging to the TNFRSF, was reported to be expressed preferentially by activated or memory Th2 cells but not by resting B or T cells. CD30L/CD30 signaling was thought to be involved in Th2 cell responses and Th2-associated diseases. However, a number of studies suggest that CD30L/CD30 signaling is also linked to Th1 cell responses and Th1-associated diseases. Furthermore, there are several lines of evidence that naturally occurring regulatory T cells suppressed allograft rejection mediated by memory CD4+ T cells via a CD30-dependent mechanism (Tang, C., et al, 2008).
