      Background InformationDickkopf-related protein 2 (DKK2) is a member of the dickkopf family and are a necessary component of vertebrate development through its interactions with the Wnt signaling pathway. DKK2 has the ability to act as an agonist or antagonist of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling which depends upon the cellular context and presence of the co-factor kremen 2. DKK2 is expressed in the brain, skeletal muscle, lung, and heart. Mutations in DKK2 are associated with bone disease.
