      Background InformationRuvB-like 2 (RUVBL2), also called Reptin 52 and TIP49B, is a DNA helicase of the AAA+ ATPase family known to be involved in double-strand break repair. The RuvB-Like 2 is the second human homologue of the bacterial RuvB gene. Bacterial RuvB protein is a DNA helicase essential for homologous recombination and DNA double-strand break repair. In mammalian cells, functional analysis of the RevB-like 2 protein has shown it functions as both and DNA-stimulated ATPase and an ATP-dependent DNA helicase. As a component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex this protein acetylates histones H4 and H2A to activate transcription. These changes appear to alter nucleosome-DNA interactions and promote the interactions of other proteins that activate transcription. Activation by this complex may be required for activation of genes associated with with tumor suppressor mediated growth arrest, apoptosis, DNA repair, as well as oncogene and proto-oncogene mediated growth induction.
