      Background InformationTransmembrane protein 199 (TMEM199) is thought to be a multi-pass membrane protein that is part of a collection of proteins sometimes called a NET's (nuclear envelope transmembrane protein). With a predicted mass of ~23 kDa, this nuclear envelope protein was identified using nuclear envelopes from resting and phytohemagglutinin-activated leukocytes. As a result of this activation, these leukocytes have a particularly high density of peripheral chromatin that undergoes significant reorganization.
