      Background InformationProtein arginine N-methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) is an enzyme that can catalyze the methylation of arginine residues in target proteins. PRMT5 preferentially catalyzes the formation of omega-N monomethylarginine (MMA) but will also catalyze the formation of symmetrical dimethylarginine (sDMA). This enzyme is known to methylate ‘Arg3 ‘ on histone H2A and H4 during germ cell development. It also reported to methylate histone H3 'Arg-8', which may lead to repression of transcription.
