Two systems, one task: Testing the fluoride content of water with Aquamerck® and Spectroquant®
Ground and surface water, sea water, drinking water or sewage water: Water needs to fulfill different criteria depending on its distribution and use. One indicator for quality and possible effects on humans and the environment is its fluoride content. With Aquamerck® and Spectroquant®, Merck is offering two alternative systems for uncomplicated, on-site and in-process analysis – simple, tailor-made and reliable.
Water analysis for quality control: a wide range of scenarios
Fluoride, for example, is added to tap water in the USA. Officials regularly monitor the content in order to maintain a constant value between 0.3 and 0.7 mg/l. The quality of drinking water in Europe also depends on close monitoring. Here, the fluoride concentration is not allowed to exceed 1.5 mg/l.
Untreated and ground water, on the other hand, can be afflicted by geological influences such as warm springs or volcanic activity, as well as by over-fertilization. In certain areas of Kenya and South Africa, for example, fluoride content exceeds 25 mg/l. In Germany, the average value is between 0.1 and 0.18 mg/l. Other products such as toothpaste or textiles also need to be tested regularly for their fluoride content.
