Caspases belong to a family of cysteine proteases that cleave substrates at the carboxyl terminus of asparate residues. Caspase-9 is an initiator caspase responsible for activation of the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. This is a convenient immunofluorescent assay for the quantitative detection of active caspase-9 in cell lysates.
