4-Nitrophenyl-2-(octadecylsulfonyl)ethylcarbonate is lipophilic peptide purification tag [1]. By capping unreacted sites during synthesis, the N-terminal amino group of the desired peptide can be labeled with this tag. The lipophilic nature of the tag dramatically changes the HPLC characteristics of the product enabling it to be easily separated form capped by-products, Cleavage of the tag can be effected by treatment with 5-10% NH4OH in TFE.
