Recombinant, human apolipoprotein E-E4 (arginine at amino acid 112 and 158) expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells using a baculovirus expression system. Binds to the LDL receptor, and binds to β-amyloid protein with higher affinity than Apo E2 and E3. Significantly higher levels of E4 are reported in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and atherosclerosis. Promotes early appearance of β-amyloid and neurofibrillary tangles in the elderly.
