A cell-permeable pyridyl compound that selectively promotes apoptosome formation and the subsequent caspase activation by antagonizing prothymosin-α (ProT), a negative regulator of mitochondria-initiated caspase activation. Shown to elevate caspase-3 activity in cancer cell extracts in a dose-dependent manner (maximum stimulation at ~ 100 to 200 µM in HeLa cell lysate).
