Native chymase, a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, purified from human skin mast cells. Released from granules during mast cell activation. Facilitates angiogenesis in sponge granulation tissues via local production of angiotensin II, which upregulates VEGF. Known to cleave fibronectin, vitronectin, and procollagen in vivo. Tight binding to heparin proteoglycan causes the enzyme to act at a higher activity towards natural and peptide substrates.
