Native coagulation factor IXaβ from human plasma prepared from homogeneous Factor IX by activation with bovine Factor XIa, which was removed after activation. Factor XIa activates Factor IX in a two-step reaction. First, an internal Arg-Ala bond is cleaved, then an Arg-Val bond is cleaved, which leads to the liberation of an activation peptide from the N-terminal portion of the heavy chain to produce Factor IXaβ. Sold on the basis of units, where one unit equals the amount of Factor IX in 1 ml pooled human plasma.
