An antitumor agent and protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor. When exposed to UV light, DECA covalently binds to and irreversibly inhibits PKCα and PKCβ (IC50 = 7-18 µM). A potent and selective non-peptide blocker of the apamin-sensitive small conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channel (IC50 = 1.1 µM). A blocker of ganglionic transmission (EC50 = 2 µM). Selectively accumulates within the mitochondria of carcinoma cells and disrupts energy production.
