Recombinant, human gankyrin fused at the N-terminus to a His•Tag® sequence and expressed in E. coli. A component of the 19S regulatory cap of the 26S proteasome. Gankyrin is a 25 kDa cytoplasmic protein consisting of seven ankyrin repeats and containing 226 amino acid residues. Overexpression of gankyrin in hepatocarcinogenesis and hepatoma cell lines promotes anti-apoptotic activity in tumor cells. Gankyrin also plays a role in the ubiquitination of p53 by MDM2.
