Recombinant, human histone deacetylase 5 (HDAC5) (amino acids 657-1123) fused to a His•Tag® sequence at the C-terminus and expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells using a baculovirus expression system. HDAC5 expression is activated upon cell differentiation. HDAC5, a distinct class II deacetylase, inhibits the activity of determinant transcription factors. The active deacetylase is useful in the study of HDAC5 regulation and inhibitor screening.
