A phytoecdysteroid analog of ecdysone that acts as a potent inducer of ecdysone-inducible genes in mammalian cells and transgenic animals (Kd ~1 nM). Induces apoptosis (~5 µM) in cells transfected with wild-type Bax. Shown to regulate the metamorphosis of Drosophila melanogaster and induce the biological response of G2 cell cycle arrest.
