A cell-permeable naphthalimide compound that inhibits virulence regulation in Vibrio cholerae. Shown to target the transcriptional regulator ToxT, block its dimerization, and prevent the expression of cholera toxin and the toxin coregulated pilus (TCP) with minimal bacterial toxicity. Effectively protects infant mice against TCP-dependent V. cholerae intestinal colonization in vivo. Displays little toxicity towards mammalian cells (up to 2mM for Hep2 cells).
