A powerhouse in the iron ore market, Vale expects benchmark quality – of itself and its partners. “If you’re talking about reagents and other chemical products,” explains Gislayne Andrade Matias da Iuz, a supervisor at Vale, “Merck is a benchmark, a model. If you want to conduct a test and know you can rely on the result, you look for a Merck product.” As Vale produces over 60% of all the iron in Brazil, da Iuz also looks to Merck quality and reliability to streamline her day-to-day work. 

At Vale, the issue of costs is a perennial one. What affects the bottom line for da Iuz? “Highly pure and reliable products,” she reveals, “so we continue to see better and better results in our analyses.”
