Gene Information
mouse ... Stx3(20908)
General description
Syntaxin-3 (UniProt: Q64704; also known as STX3) is encoded by the Stx3 gene (Gene ID: 20908) in murine species. Syntaxin-3B is a single-pass type IV membrane protein that is specific for ribbon synapses of the retina. Stx3 gene codes for four different splice forms, Syntaxin 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D. Syntaxin 3A and 3B have an identical N-terminal domain but differ in the C-terminal half of the SNARE domain and the C-terminal transmembrane domain. These two domains are thought to be directly involved in synaptic vesicle fusion. Syntaxin 3 protein is found in all ribbon synapses of the retina. This type of synapse in the retina is formed by rod and cone photoreceptors, as well as by bipolar neurons. Syntaxin 3B has been shown to be important for synaptic vesicle exocytosis in retinal bipolar cells indicating a specific role for Syntaxin 3B in ribbon synapses. Syntaxin 3B can be phosphorylation at Thr14 by CAM Kinase II is shown to increase its binding to SNAP-25. (Ref.: Curtis, LB et al. (2008). J. Comp. Neurol. 510(5): 550-559; Liu, X et al. (2014). Mol. Cell. Neurosci. 60(1): 53-62).
~33 kDa observed; 32.95 kDa calculated. Uncharacterized bands may be observed in some lysate(s).
Immunogen
GST-tagged recombinant murine Syntaxin 3, isoform B that lacks the transmembrane domain.
Application
Anti-Syntaxin-3B clone 12E5, Cat. No. MABN2394, is a highly specific mouse monoclonal antibody that targets Syntaxin 3B and has been tested in Immunocytochemistry, Immunohistochemistry, Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), Immunoprecipitation, and Western Blotting.
