General description

m-Endo Total Coliform Broth is a dehydrated, selective, and differential medium designed for the detection and enumeration of total coliform bacteria in water samples. The medium is formulated with sodium sulfite and basic fuchsin, which inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria while allowing coliform bacteria to grow. Lactose-fermenting bacteria produce acetaldehyde, which reacts with sodium sulfite and fuchsin to form red colonies. Rapid lactose fermentation results in a metallic sheen on the colonies. Non-lactose fermenting bacteria form colorless colonies.
