Synthetic, human adrenocorticotropic hormone (amino acids 1-24). N-Terminal synthetic fragment of pituitary hormone that stimulates secretion of adrenal corticosteroids and induces growth of adrenal cortex. Directly activates G-proteins. A stimulator of adenylate cyclase and cAMP formation (ED50 = 50 nM).

DescriptionSynthetic, human adrenocorticotropic hormone (amino acids 1-24). N-terminal synthetic fragment of the pituitary hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone. Adrenocorticotropin from human pituitary glands consists of 39 amino acids. The first 24 amino acids are responsible for the biological activity of the hormone and are identical in all species. The remaining fragment has species-dependent differences in its amino acid sequence and is essential for the immunological specificity of ACTH, but is not necessary for activity. Directly activates G-proteins.
