Dimethyl sulfoxide has been used:
- in the preparation of bisphenol A (BPA)
- in cell proliferation assay (MTT assay)
- in chemosensitivity assay
- as the vehicle control in all experiments like apoptosis assay
- in ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylation (EROD) assay
Biochem/physiol Actions
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), an organic solvent possesses several pharmaceutical activities such as analgesic, diuretic, bacteriostatic, membrane-penetrant, anti-inflammatory, vasodilatory and cholinesterase inhibitory effects. It is a by-product of the lumber industry and used as an industrial solvent. DMSO also serves as a therapeutic agent to treat interstitial cystitis and arthritis.
