      Background InformationTorsin-1A-interacting protein 1, also known as lamina associated polypeptide 1B (LAP1B), is a protein encoded by the TOR1AIP1 gene. As suggested by its name, this protein interacts with torsin A and is implicated in the the disease torsion A dystonia. This protein is a type II integral membrane protein with a nuclear N-terminus and a single transmembrane domain. It is known to bind to A- and B-type lamins and has a possible role in membrane attachment and assembly of the nuclear lamina. A number of splice variants are known to exist.
