OverviewThe MILLIPLEX® MAP Human Kidney Injury Magnetic Bead Panel 5 contains all the components necessary to measure the following six biomarkers in any combination using Luminex® xMAP® technology: α-1-Microglobulin, Collagen IV, Lipocalin-2/NGAL, Osteoactivin, TIMP-1, Uromodulin. The kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, two quality controls and can measure up to 38 serum or plasma samples in duplicate.
Background InformationMaintenance of physiological balance in the body is attributed in part to normal kidney function. Altered kidney function due to injury, drug toxicity or kidney failure may be life threatening. Toxicity is the leading cause of drug failure, so research is expanding in search of more sensitive, rapid methods to determine organ-specific damage as quickly as possible. Traditionally, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine tests have been used to determine drug-induced damage to the kidney. These tests only detect kidney damage after it begins and do not allow for the elucidation of where in the kidney the damage has occurred. Specificity and earlier detection of kidney injury is vital, and this area of research is expanding in search of more sensitive, rapid methods for determining the specific area of damage in kidney.

Application Notes• Customers should determine the optimal dilution factor for their samples. Our recommendations are based on serum and plasma samples from normal subjects.
• This assay requires 25 µL of 1:75 diluted serum or plasma sample per well in kit Assay Buffer (please dilute per protocol instructions).
• An overnight (4°C) incubation is recommended.
