September 5, 2012, Billerica, MA — Merck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck, today announced the launch of Cellvento™ CHO-100, a non-animal origin, chemically-defined medium that provides strong cell growth, high productivity and lot-to-lot consistency. The new media formulation was designed for the long-term growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells to express antibodies or protein products, which will save biopharmaceutical manufacturers time and effort.
“The Cellvento™ CHO-100 cell culture medium is a significant addition to our Pharm Chemical Solutions business,” said Dr. Antoine Heron, Head of Biopharm Materials & Technologies. “It delivers outstanding lot-to-lot consistency in physico-chemical characteristics as well as in growth and production profiles, optimizing the cell culture process and allowing manufacturers to bring protein products to market faster.”
As a non-animal origin, chemically-defined medium, Cellvento™ CHO-100 contains no hydrolysates or components of unknown composition. It was designed to achieve high cell densities in batch mode operation, which is essential to efficient cell culture productivity. Cellvento™ CHO-100 is produced as a powder at the company’s cGMP-compliant facility using high grade raw materials meeting the company’s stringent requirements, leading to reliable product homogeneity that results in effective powder dissolution and uniform component distribution.
