      BackgroundCD44 is a cell surface glycoprotein expressed in a wide variety of tissues and in multiple isoforms resulting from both alternative transcript splicing and differential glycosylation. Some isoforms are believed to be involved in tumor growth and metastasis. CD44v6 is an isoform that has been implicated in tumor metastasis.
