Background InformationThrough evolution, eukaryotic cells have incorporated numerous viral promoter elements and incorporated them as part of their own gene regulatory elements. Nuclear factor 1/C was originally recognized as a transcription factor that bound the origin of replication for adenovirus type 2. Nuclear factor 1/C belongs to the CTF/NF-I family of eukaryotic DNA replication and transcription factors and is important in regulating the expression of many cellular developmental systems such as that of tooth development as well as multiple TGF-beta1 signaling mediated pathways systems.
