Application
Superoxide dismutase-polyethylene glycol from bovine erythrocytes has been used:
- in the incubation of lung slices for measurement of dihydroethidium (DHE) fluorescence in cultured bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells
- as supplement in T cell culture to investigate its effect on cytokine production
- in the preincubation of the carotid artery sections prior to DHE treatment
Biochem/physiol Actions
Superoxide dismutase-polyethylene glycol (SOD-PEG) is effective than SOD in scavenging free radicals in injuries. It reduces oxidative damage in ovarian follicles cell culture and during ovarian tissue transplantation. SOD-PEG is also effective in scavenging superoxide in mitochondrial abnormalities.
General description
Superoxide dismutase from bovine erythrocytes is a copper and zinc superoxide dismutase. Copper and zinc ions are coordinated by active site histidine residues. It has β-barrel structure.
Other Notes
Superoxide dismutase from bovine erythrocytes coupled to methoxy-polyethylene glycol, M.W. 5,000, through secondary amine linkage.

Healthy perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) exerts an anticontractile effect on resistance arteries which is vital in regulating arterial tone. Activation of β3-adrenoceptors by sympathetic nerve-derived NA (noradrenaline) may be implicated in this effect and may stimulate the release of the
