Trade Name
  • Chemicon
DescriptionAnti-Tyrosine Hydroxylase Antibody, phosphoSer 40
Alternate Names
  • Tyrosine Monooxygenase
Background InformationTyrosine hydroxylase plays an important role in the physiology of adrenergic neurons. It is the first and rate-limiting enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the catecholamines Dopamine and Norepinephrine from tyrosine. TH is, therefore, a useful marker for dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurons. The enzymatic activity of TH requires ferrous ions as cofactors and is believed to be regulated by phosphorylation. At least four isoforms of human TH have been identified which result from alternative splicing.

ApplicationAnti-Tyrosine Hydroxylase Antibody, phosphoSer 40 detects level of Tyrosine Hydroxylase & has been published & validated for use in IC, IH & WB.
Key Applications
  • Immunocytochemistry
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Western Blotting
Application NotesImmunohistochemistry:
A 1:1,000 dilution of a previous lot was used in IH.

A 1:1,000 dilution of a previous lot was used in IC.

Optimal working dilutions must be determined by the end user.
Biological Information
ImmunogenSynthetic peptide from the phosphoSer40 of rat Tyrosine Hydroxylase.
ConcentrationPlease refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration.
SpecificityTyrosine Hydroxylase, phosphoSer40. The antibody recognizes a protein of 60 kDa corresponding to TH phosphorylated at Ser40. Depending on brain region being studied, protein loads and detection methods used some higher molecular weight bands may be detected.
Species Reactivity
  • Rat
  • Mouse
  • Human
  • Avian
Species Reactivity NoteRat and mouse. It is expected that the antibody will also react with human, porcine, quail and non-human primates due to sequence homology (100%). Other species have not been tested.
Antibody TypePolyclonal Antibody
Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryTyrosine hydroxylase is involved in the conversion of tyrosine to dopamine. As the rate-limiting enzyme in the synthesis of catecholamines, tyrosine hydroxylase has a key role in the physiology of adrenergic neurons.

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P07101 # Plays an important role in the physiology of adrenergic neurons.
COFACTOR: Fe(2+) ion.
SIZE: 528 amino acids; 58524 Da
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Mainly expressed in the brain and adrenal glands.
DISEASE: SwissProt: P07101 # Defects in TH are the cause of autosomal recessive Segawa syndrome [MIM:605407]; also known as DOPA-responsive dystonia. Typically, it begins in childhood or adolescence with progressive difficulty in walking and, in some cases, spasticity. Some cases present with parkinsonian symptoms in infancy and are referred to as autosomal recessive infantile parkinsonism.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P07101 ## Belongs to the biopterin-dependent aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family.
