Supporting Trust and Comparability in Metabolomics Data with NIST Reference Materials
Webinar
Quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) practices are necessary steps in a metabolomics workflow that lend confidence to the acquired analytical data and facilitate metabolomics research success. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides reference materials (RMs) that serve as metabolomics QC tools. These are well-defined, stable, homogeneous, fit-for-purpose samples that enable measurement harmonization and data comparability across instrumentation, protocols, studies and laboratories.
During the webinar, you will:
- Discover how NIST metabolomics reference materials provide stable, homogeneous QC tools to harmonize measurements across platforms and studies.
- Understand practical benefits and considerations for RM use to improve data comparability and reliability in metabolomics workflows.
- Explore community-driven efforts by mQACC to enhance overall metabolomics data quality and standardization.
- Learn how to integrate QA/QC practices and RM strategies into everyday metabolomics experiments for robust results.

Research Chemist
Dr. Tracey Schock is a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and manages the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility at the Hollings Marine Laboratory, a joint partner institute in Charleston, SC. Her current work involves developing reference materials for the metabolomics community to facilitate data harmonization and confidence in study results and conclusions; focuses on metabolomics measurement and data quality; and applies metabolomics to agricultural sciences, specifically aquaculture. As an engaged member of the international Metabolomics Society and the Metabolomics Quality Assurance and Quality Control Consortium (mQACC), Tracey and colleagues are developing a Metabolomics QA/QC Best Practices Living Guidance document reflective of community gathered information to be used as resource encouraging the adoption of current best practices. Additionally, Tracey has recently served the metabolomics community as the Vice President of the Metabolomics Association of North America (MANA).
