General description
DEK, also known as Protein DEK, and encoded by the gene DEK, is a human chromatin modification protein found in mRNA splicing-dependent complexes. DEK interacts with histones and other chromatin proteins and is a component of the B-WICH complex, a critical complex needed for proper transcription of the 5S rRNA genes and 7SL genes by RNA polymerase III which is necessary for cell growth and proliferation. DEK protein also plays an important role in cell apoptosis and high expression levels of the human DEK have been correlated with numerous human malignancies. DEK localizes to the nucleus and has been shown to be an effective biomarker in the progression of colorectal cancers.
~ 50 kDa observed. The calculated molecular weight is 43 kDa, however DEK has been shown as a ~50 kDa band in western blots (Mor-Vaknin, N., et al. (2006). Molecular and Cellular Biology. 26(24):9484-9496). Uncharacterized band(s) may appear in some lysates.
Immunogen
Recombinant protein corresponding to human DEK.
Application
Anti-DEK Antibody detects level of DEK & has been published & validated for use in DEK.
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A representative lot detected DEK in human melanoma tissue (Khodadoust, M., et al. (2009). Cancer Res. 69:6405-6413).
