Gene Information
mouse ... Meiob(75178)
General description
MEIOB is a single stranded binding protein required for proper homologous recombination in meiosis I. MEIOB is required for proper DNA strand repair at double strand breaks and faithful synapsis of the chromosomes. MEIOB is also required for successful completion of meiotic recombination and is part of a multiprotein complex with RPA2 and SPATA22 proteins. MEIOB is expressed in the gonads and specifically in ovary and testis starting at the 14th weeks post fertilization. MEIOB is also expressed in a variety of tumors but not in other tissues other than testis and ovary. Because of its unique expression MEIOB is being examined as a possible anti-cancer autoimmune agent.
~50 kDa observed. Uncharacterized band(s) may appear in some lysates.
Immunogen
Recombinant protein corresponding to mouse MEIOB.
Application
Immunoprecipitation Analysis: A representative lot immunoprecipitated MEIOB in P18 testes (Luo, M., et al. (2013). Nature. DOI: 10.1038/ncomms3788 pg. 1-12).
Immunocytochemistry Analysis: A representative lot detected MEIOB in mouse spermatocytes (Luo, M., et al. (2013). Nature. DOI: 10.1038/ncomms3788 pg. 1-12).

Meiotic recombination is critical for genetic exchange and generation of chiasmata that ensures faithful chromosome segregation during meiosis I. Meiotic recombination is initiated by DNA double-strand break (DSB) followed by multiple processes of DNA repair. The exact mechanisms for how

Breast cancer susceptibility gene II (BRCA2) is central in homologous recombination (HR). In meiosis, BRCA2 binds to MEILB2 to localize to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). Here, we identify BRCA2 and MEILB2-associating protein 1 (BRME1), which functions as a stabilizer of
