General description

Covalent modification of histones plays critical role in regulating chromatin structure and transcription. JMJD8 is one member of the family of JmjC domain-containing histone demethylation (JHDM) enzymes. These proteins remove specific methyl marks from histones. Histone demethylation by JHDM proteins requires cofactors Fe(II) and alpha-ketoglutarate. Contributions of histone demethylase activity to tumor development, decreases in cell proliferation, and hormone-dependent transcriptional activation have been observed. While two isoforms of JMJD8 have been described, further study is still required to clarify the roles and mechanisms of JMJD8 among other JHDM protein family members.
~37 kDa observed. Two isoforms with molecular weights of ~34 kDa and ~37 kDa have been described. An uncharacterized band at ~160 kDa may be observed in some lysates.

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to human JMJD8.
