General description
The protein SOX-6 which is encoded by the gene SOX6, is a transcriptional activator that binds to the enhancer sequence in DNA of 5′AACAAT3′ that is present on genes. SOX-6 plays a key role in development for several developmental systems including neurogenesis and skeleton formation. Additionally, SOX-6 is important in cardiocyte differentiation, cartilage development, cell morphogenesis, erythrocyte development, oligodendrocyte cell fate specification, positive regulation of cartilage development, positive regulation of chondrocyte differentiation, and positive regulation of mesenchymal stem cell differentiation. The activity of SOX-6 is mediated by sumoylation. SOX-6 is localized to the nucleus. SOX-6 is expressed in a wide variety of tissues both during development and in adult life, with the most abundant expression seen in skeletal muscle.
~ 92 kDa observed. Uncharacterized band(s) may appear in some lysates.
Immunogen
GST-tagged recombinant protein corresponding to human SOX-6.
