DescriptionSet of 6 mouse monoclonal antibodies specific for caspase-3, caspase-6, or caspase-7.
BackgroundThe caspase family of proteins plays a central role in the apoptotic response. Normally existing in a latent, zymogen form, following receipt of an apoptotic signal they become activated and proceed to cleave and dismantle the structural, regulatory and genetic information in the cell either directly or indirectly. There are currently over a dozen caspase proteins that have been described in multiple species and many of these proteins exist as isoform variants. The spectrum of caspases can be broadly divided into three families based either on structural motifs held in common or on the basis of activity. These families are the CARD containing caspases, the DED containing caspases and the downstream effector caspases. The downstream effector caspases are those responsible for direct cleavage of cellular substrates and most likely responsible for the "death-blow" during apoptosis. This group contains caspases 3, 6, and 7.
