General description

Filter Code: PL, Ultracel® low binding regenerated cellulose
Filter Type: Ultrafiltration
Simply and efficiently concentrate and desalt solutions of any macromolecule, using any centrifuge that can accept 1.5 mL tubes. With the low-binding Ultracel membrane, Microcon filters offer:
•Typical recoveries of greater than 95%, even for dilute solutions
•Reverse spin to maximize recovery, even in the smallest samples
•Convenient storage of filtrate or concentrated sample in standard microfuge tube
•Concentration factors up to 100X

Features:
•High recovery for small volumes with reverse spin (concentration factor less than 20X)
•Low-binding Ultracel membrane
•Fast processing

Application

This 0.5 mL centrifugal filter enables the concentration of biomolecules with a membrane NMWL of 10 kDa. Micron centrifugal filters are ideal for DNA & protein concentration & desalting.

Questions

  1. What is the difference between these and amicon filters?

    1 answer
    1. Microcon and Amicon Ultra products are very similar. Both concentrate liquids down to a retentate and a filtrate. Substances bigger than the molecular weight cutoff stay on top of the membrane and are reduced from a larger initial volume to a smaller final volume. Two key differences are: the Microcon can be slightly better to use for substances in lower initial concentrations and when substances are sticky. Higher recovery can occur with Microcon due to the product being physically smaller and thus, less product is lost to the hold up volume of the membrane and plastic sides of the tube.
