DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~16 kDa survivin protein.
BackgroundApoptosis, or programmed cell death, is related to many diseases, such as cancer. Apoptosis is triggered by a variety of stimuli including members of the TNF family, and prevented by inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) proteins. IAP proteins, the products of a conserved gene family, bind to and inhibit cell death proteases. One novel IAP protein was recently identified and has been designated survivin. Survivin, a ~16 kDa protein, interacts with the processed form of caspase-3 and inhibits its proteolytic activity. Survivin is predominantly expressed in the tissues of embryos, transformed cell lines, and in many human cancers and lymphomas.
