A cell-permeable 2,6,9-trisubstituted purine analog that blocks mitotic spindle assembly by competitively inhibiting NQO1, an NADP-dependent oxidoreductase. Shown to interact with the NADP binding site and directly affect tubulin polymerization. Does not induce oxidative stress or affect the activity of Cdk1, DNA replication, or actin polymerization. Shown to cause significant microtubule depolymerization in Xenopus XL177 cells at 50 µM.
