General description
A cell-permeable imidazoline-2-thione based compound that acts as a direct, rapid, selective and sensitive fluorescence turn-on detection probe for hypochlorous acid (HOCl; detection limit of 71 nM). Efficiently reacts with hypochlorite to yield fluorescent imidazolium ions, with good water solubility and photostability. Generates negligible fluorescence emission with several other ROS/RNS (H2O2, TBHP, NO·, ROO·, ONOO− and HO·). Shown to efficiently visualize and detect stimulants triggered endogenous HOCl generation in RAW 264.7 macrophages co-cultured with HeLa cells. Also enables to monitor HOCl levels by two-photon image in RAW 264.7 cells and in rat hippocampal slices (depth of >100 µm) in a dose-dependent manner.
