General description

Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is secreted by a number of cells including T helper cells, CD4 cells and a various white blood cells and is thought to be a mediator of allergic inflammation in many tissues via the induction of IgE synthesis by B cells. Although primarily associated with the induction of airway disease, IL-13 has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines by monocytes and macrophages suggesting it has important anti-inflammatory properties.

Other Notes

Although IL-13 was detectable in guinea pig, non-human primate, rat, rabbit and canine samples, the assay has not been verified for these species.
