General description
The Millipore Biomax® PES Membrane Filter is a polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration membrane disc designed to selectively retain macromolecules above 30 kDa while allowing smaller molecules, salts, and solvents to pass through under applied pressure.
Application
- PES membrane filter, 30 kDa is suitable for use in concentration, diafiltration and buffer exchange of macromolecules (proteins, enzymes, antibodies, viruses), where pressure-driven ultrafiltration is applied to solutions up to ~10% macromolecule concentration.
- It has been used in fundamental studies of membrane degradation (“ageing”) under oxidative or radiative stress, where the membrane was exposed to cleaning agents (e.g., hypochlorite) or UV light and analyzed by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR).
30 kDa NMWL, Biomax polyethersulfone, 76 mm diameter
Features and Benefits
- Polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration membrane with a 30 kDa NMWCO provides efficient size-based retention and separation of macromolecules such as proteins, enzymes, antibodies, and viruses.
- It supports concentration, diafiltration, and buffer exchange in pressure-driven stirred-cell systems, achieving macro solute concentrations up to 10%.
- It operates within a broad pH range of 3.0–13.0 and withstands temperatures up to 50 °C.
- The maximum operating pressure of the membrane filter is 483 kPa (70 psi); lower operating pressures are recommended wherever possible to minimize concentration polarization and membrane compaction.
- It also supports multiple sterilization methods (formalin, glutaraldehyde, sterilizing gas) and can be restored using NaOH, NaOCl, or enzymatic cleaners (Micro or Tergazyme®).
