General description

Acetylspiramycin is an antibiotic belonging to the class of macrolides. It is derived from the natural antibiotic spiramycin, which is produced by Streptomyces ambofaciens bacteria.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mode of Action:
Acetylspiramycin inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial ribosome.

Antimicrobial Spectrum:
Active against gram-positive bacteria like taphylococci and streptococci.
