Background InformationPre-mRNA-splicing factor SRp55 is a member of the serine/arginine-rich (SR) protein family. This group of proteins is found mainly in the nucleus where they play a critical role in regulated and constitutive splicing of precursor mRNAs. SRp55 is involved in the constitutive process for mRNA splicing, and is able to mediate alternative splice site selection. Considered one of the more ubiquitous of the splice factors, SRp55 is upregulated in response to DNA damage when p53 is lacking. SRp55 is significantly phosphorylated on RS domain serine residues.
