General description
4,4′-Dipyridyl (BPY) is an organic linker mainly used in the preparation of coordination polymers. It is a pyridine derivative in which pyridyl groups can rotate along the carbon-carbon structure. It can be used as a catalyst for photoelectrochemical reduction.
4,4′-bpy is popularly used to bridge metal centers to form coordination polymers with novel properties. 4,4′-bpy ligands can mediate electronic effects between paramagnetic metals ions by stabilizing the magnetic ordering.
Application
4,4′-Dipyridyl (4,4′-bipyridine, 4,4′-bpy) and Co (NCS)2 solutions were interdifussed to form single crystals Co(NCS)2(4,4′-bipy)2·2(CH3CH2)2O and Co(NCS)2(4,4′-bipy)2·2(CH3CH2)2O.
BPY is a ligand that forms a network between the transition metals which results in the formation of coordination bond. Hybrid nanosheets can be prepared by using a coordination polymer and BPY as a complex linker. It consists of two active sites which can be used for the development of drugs.
