Biochem/physiol Actions

Recognizes rat Monocarboxylate Transporter 4 (MCT4/MOT4/ SLC16A3). The immunogen shows no significant sequence homology with other MCT. MCT4 is prominently expressed in skeletal muscle and other cells with high glycolytic rate such as tumors cells and white blood cells suggesting an important role in lactic acid efflux.

Note: According to new nomenclature, the old MCT3 has now been reclassified as MCT4. Consult Halestrap and Price (1999) Biochem. J. 343:281-299.

SPECIES REACTIVITIES:

Rat. The immunogen sequence is 100% conserved in human and mouse and 78% conserved in chicken. Reactivity with other species has not been confirmed.

Monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) is an H+-coupled symporter highly expressed in metastatic tumors and at inflammatory sites undergoing hypoxia or the Warburg effect. At these sites, extracellular lactate contributes to malignancy and immune response evasion. Intriguingly, at 30-40 mm, the
