General description
Application
- As an antibiotic4 and antineoplastic agent.
- As a toxic to insulin producing β-cells of pancreas in mammals The relative toxicity to β-cells is occurring because of the similarity of STZ to glucose, as it transported into the cells by glucose transport protein, GLUT2, which is highly expressed on β-cells.
- For treating cancer of Islets of Langerhans and to produce animal models of type 1, diabetes.
- To induce diabetes in rats.It is injected at 60-100mg/Kg to induce diabetes in rats model.
