General description
Thymopentin (TP5) is a pentapeptide produced by the epithelial cells of the thymic cortex and medulla. It consists of thymosin α1 (Tα1).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Thymopentin (TP5) is an immunomodulator, resembling the active site of the thymopoietin. TP5 stimulates cellular immune responses such as T-cell formation, natural killer (NK) cell and macrophage activation, generation of cytokines, and activation of B-cell for antibody production. It also mimics the polypeptide environment of the thymus. TP5 is used to treat conditions like immune deficiency, autoimmune diseases, infections, and cancers. It has a short half-life and is rapidly metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract.

Thymopoietin is a polypeptide hormone of the thymus consisting of 49 amino acids. The pentapeptide thymopentin (TP-5) Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr, corresponding to amino acids 32-36 of thymopoietin, appears to represent the active site of thymopoietin in that it has all the biological

Immunomodulation is interpreted as a temporary alert in a certain part of the immune system. The activation of immune competent cells is presented as a possible basic mechanism of this phenomenon. In the absence of a primary stimulus, immunomodulation remains

Copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of l- or d-lactide in the presence of dihydroxyl PEG with molar mass of 6000, 12,000 and 20,000, using zinc lactate as catalyst. Bioresorbable hydrogels were obtained by mixing PLLA-PEG-PLLA and PDLA-PEG-PDLA aqueous
