General description

4-methylmorpholine, also known as N-Methylmorpholine, is a cyclic tertiary amine and is commonly used as a highly valuable solvent and a fine chemical for cellulose.

Application

4-methylmorpholine is used:
  • in the synthesis of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO)
  • as an effective and inexpensive additive for highly enantioselective arylation of aryl aldehydes catalyzed by the (S)-H8-BINOL-Ti(Oi-Pr)2 complex
4-Methylmorpholine can be used to synthesize N-butyl-N-methylmorpholinium bromide by reacting with bromobutane.
